Inspiring great place-making
The chief executive of Living Street thinks it has "got much worse over the past few years". Tony Armstrong was reacting to comments by Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles, who claimed pedestrians run a "ghastly gauntlet of bin-blighted streets" and he wants space for wheelie bins to be a requirement for all new-build homes, to keep them off the streets. New planning guidance on wheelie bins is due to be published next week.
Mr Armstrong said some broadband boxes has been "plonked in...willy nilly" by utility firms, but there was good news as some councils were removing old guard rails and redundant signposts.
He spoke of the problems faced by partially-sighted people, and parents with pushchairs, who can struggle to get around street furniture.
